George Mikes fue un escritor húngaro nacido a principios del siglo XX que se trasladó a Londres en 1940 y ya no volvió a su país natal. En 1946 publicaba How to be an alien: A Handbook for Beginners and Advanced Pupils, un breve libro en el que analizaba con un humor muy británico lo que suponía ser un alien, un extranjero en Inglaterra.
How to be an alien de George Mikes es extraordinariamente divertido, y cualquiera que haya convivido con británicos o pasado una temporada en el Reino Unido se dará cuenta de cuantas cosas se mantienen vigentes más de 60 años después. Se lee de una sentada, y está escrito en un lenguaje sencillo y preciso a la vez, por lo que constituye un muy buen material de aprendizaje.
